College Football Week 14 Recap (11/30)

Ty and Dan discuss a wild week of rivalries, including Dr. Bo’s swan song, JT Barrett’s devastating injury, Florida State’s sloppy win, Arizona’s triumph in the desert, and an homage to the great SEC defenses of yesteryear in the Iron Bowl. Plus, Reverbs, super duper chaos scenarios, a debate over the best team in the Big 12, and Fordham fever on Finebaum’s Film Room.

Show Summary

Dan and Ty discuss the firing of Nebraska’s Bo Pelini.

(14:05) — Ole Miss 31, Mississippi State 17: Dan calls this the most Dr. Bo game of the season — he wasn’t particularly efficient but was able to make big plays. Dan also notes that this was still an absolutely fantastic season from the Bulldogs, despite the loss to their rival. Ty said Ole Miss’ plan to crush Dak Prescott’s running threat was the biggest key to the game.

(17:40) — Alabama 55, Auburn 44: Ty notes how close Blake Sims seemed to be from being pulled for backup Jake Coker, but his clutch throws to Amari Cooper was vital. Dan wanted to point out just how good Sammie Coates was in the first half for the Tigers.

(21:45) — Missouri 21, Arkansas 14: Dan and Ty discuss some of the game and then move on to a quick SEC championship game preview.

(25:10) — Florida State 24, Florida 19: Ty and Dan say that this is probably is the ugliest game that Jameis Winston has played all season — throwing four picks — but could have been for the entire Florida State team, as well. Dan says the fact that Florida’s Treon Harris was so bad and that the Gators were still in the game shows just how poorly the Seminoles’ offense performed.

(29:30) — Georgia Tech 30, Georgia 24: Ty called this quietly the best game of the day on Saturday. Dan and Ty also discuss Georgia’s questionable decision on this kick-off at the end of regulation.

(32:00) — Clemson 35, South Carolina 17: Ty and Dan discuss Deshaun Watson’s reported ACL tear. Dan says Clemson’s running game finally looked formidable as the Tigers got over the South Carolina hump.

(34:30) — Louisville 44, Kentucky 40: DeVante Parker is good.

BIG 12

(37:20) — Baylor 48, Texas Tech 46: The Bears were badly out-played in the final 20 minutes or so. Ty notes Patrick Mahomes’ nearly 600-yard performance for the Red Raiders. Dan and also transition into discussion about Baylor and TCU’s resumes when it comes to deciding which team should be in the College Football Playoff.

PAC 12

(45:30) — Stanford 31, UCLA 10: Dan says this loss is pretty typical of a Jim Mora-led team, noting the letdown spot after beating rival USC last week.

(47:15) — Arizona 42, Arizona State 35: With this win and the Bruins’ loss, Arizona is on its way to the PAC 12 championship game. Dan says the Wildcats’ Scooby Wright is scary.

(51:00) — Oregon 47, Oregon State 19: BREAKING, Marcus Mariota is good, Dan says, also claiming that Mariota is clearly the Heisman winner.

(52:20) — USC 49, Notre Dame 14: Notre Dame’s defense is really banged up, Ty says, but this one was over quickly. Cody Kessler had a breakout game, throwing for six touchdowns against the Irish.

BIG 10

(56:00) — Ohio State 42, Michigan 28: Dan and Ty discuss the injury to JT Barrett and the Buckeyes’ new starting QB, Cardale Jones, who destroyed an Illinois defender earlier this season. Ty wonders how the committee will hold the injury against Ohio State.

(1:03.35) — Fordham 44, Holy Cross 22: Dan and Ty discuss the brilliant question about the Fordham Rams on Finebaum’s show during the Iron Bowl. In less important news, Fordham rolled Holy Cross in the first round of the FCS Playoffs.
