College Football Week 14 Preview (11/25)

Ty and Dan get aggressively caffeinated and power through a riveting week of rivalries, including the Egg Bowl, Iron Bowl, Palmetto Bowl, Territorial Cup, Governor’s Cup, The Game, and Paul Bunyan’s Axe. Plus, the historical impact of Mavis Beacon and a Thanksgiving weekend drinking game for the whole family.

Show Summary

BIG 12

(8:45) — TCU (-6.5) at Texas: Ty says it’s hard not to like TCU, but it’s also hard to not be worried about the Horned Frogs on the road, noting a few close calls away from Fort Worth. Ty also notes Texas’ defense as a formidable opponent. Dan locks up his pick.

PAC 12

(13:30) — Arizona State (pick ‘em) at Arizona: If UCLA loses to Stanford, the winner of this game goes to the PAC 12 championship game against Oregon. Dan notes the injury to Anu Solomon as possibly the determining factor in this game. Ty says the winner will likely be whatever team has the ball last.

(16:10) — Stanford (+4.5) at UCLA: Chris the Capper locks up his pick in this matchup. Dan says this feels like it could be a letdown spot for the Bruins after a big win over USC, and that the Cardinal defense is still really good. That combination could possibly make this a close game where Stanford uglies it up just enough. Ty follows Chris’ lead, noting that the line seems low.

(19:10) — Arkansas (-1.5) at Missouri: Dan and Ty agree they don’t really want to bet against the Razorbacks right now. Dan says the Tiger defense has been scary good, and he’s not sold on Arkansas’ Brandon Allen or Maty Mauk, who have both been very bad at times this season. Ty says the Razorbacks’ defense may be just too hot right now for the Tigers.

(24:40) — Mississippi State (-2) at Ole Miss: Dan and Ty note that the Rebels have nothing to lose at this point, given the last couple of weeks of losses, including the 30-0 embarrassment against Arkansas. Dan says Mississippi State should be able to get Dak Prescott going a little better than it did against Alabama. Ty fades Dan’s pick, and says the Rebels still have a tough defense.

(40:30) — Auburn (+9.5) at Alabama: Dan says this could be a trap game for the Tide, noting Alabama’s emotional win over Western Carolina. Then again, Auburn also played Samford, as well. Dan says Auburn does things, such as turnovers, that are worrisome when the Tigers have the ball. Ty says Auburn is still a good team, and that it is bound to get some breaks at some point.

BIG 10

(29:50) — Minnesota (+13.5) at Wisconsin: This game decides which team plays Ohio State in the BIG 10 championship game next week. Ty points out that Minnesota is 80th in the nation in yards-per-carry allowed, which isn’t exactly a great matchup against Mel-Gore and the run-heavy Badgers. Dan says Minnesota’s ability to not turn the ball over could keep the Gophers in the game.

(35:30) — Florida (+7.5) at Florida State: Dan says Florida State probably isn’t quite good enough to run away from a pretty good Gators’ defense. He also says that Florida might be able to have something flukey happen that can keep it in the game. Ty says the Seminoles’ experience and motivation to win impressively will give Florida State the edge.

Michigan (+21) at Ohio State

Georgia (+12.5) at Georgia

South Carolina (+2.5) at Clemson

Notre Dame (+7) at USC

Oregon (-19.5) at Oregon State

FCS Playoffs First Round — Sacred Heart (9-2) at Fordham (10-2)
