Bear Traps (11/6)

bear-trap

Ty and Dan discuss their Baylor skepticism and Oregon optimism while reiterating Alabama’s dominance and making their locks for Week 11.  Plus, another Patriot League Lightning Round and a random power ranking of bear mascots in college football.

Show Summary

Ty and Dan open the show discussing where they’re watching Thursday night’s games and mention they will be doing a Reddit AMA on Friday.

Before going into the games, they mention the long national nightmare is over as Texas selects its new athletics director and discuss the inevitability of a new head football coach in Austin.

Oklahoma at Baylor: To start, the guys talk the fiercest bear mascots in the country.  Dan isn’t that skeptical of Baylor, though, Baylor hasn’t played a top level team. He has more questions with Oklahoma’s defense not having seen a top level quarterback and isn’t convinced Blake Bell can beat the Bears. Ty questions what we know about the Baylor defense, but says the Bears survive.  Chris the Capper picks Baylor to win, but Oklahoma to cover.

Oregon at Stanford: Dan says for Stanford to win, they need to win on both lines and force the Oregon offense to move their offense away from the center of the field to the edges for their solid linebacking corps to clean up. Ty wonders if it matters whether Stanford controls the clock when playing a team that can score so quickly.

Auburn at Tennessee: Dan says there’s still a lot we don’t know about Auburn and they have a tendency to play down to their opponent. Even though Tennessee has been plucky at home, Ty thinks Auburn should be able to run all over the Vols.

Nebraska at Michigan: Ty thinks these teams are pretty similar and takes the Wolverines. Dan locks up Michigan to slaughter Nebraska.

BYU at Wisconsin: This is the best game of the week that no one knows about. Dan thinks BYU’s defense is strong enough to slow down the Badger offense, but has concerns about the Cougar offense in a hostile environment against a good Wisconsin defense. Ty thinks BYU can hang and takes the points.

Arizona State at Utah: Both guys agree Arizona State’s passing game should pummel the Utes.

Virginia Tech at Miami: Can Miami rebound after last week’s loss? Ty locks up Virginia Tech, staying consistent with his move of not taking a team off of a crushing loss. Dan thinks Miami wins ugly with Virginia Tech’s wheels starting to fall off.

Texas at West Virginia: To become bowl eligible, West Virginia has to win two of its last three games. Texas runs the ball really well and West Virginia does not stop the run. Both of the guys take Texas.

Alabama at LSU: When Alabama beat Texas A&M many moons ago, Ty and Dan were skeptical about the Tide’s defense. Since then they’ve allowed 26 points in six games. There are also a lot of questions surrounding LSU’s defense. Alabama minus everything.

UCLA at Arizona: Two 6-2 teams facing off here. Dan thinks B.J. Denker versus the UCLA front is the biggest mismatch in the game and he takes the Bruins.

Notre Dame at Pitt: This game is close every year.

Fresno State at Wyoming

Patriot League

The guys close out the pod discussing college football fandom in their respective offices and some Bones talk.
