Week 14 Review (12/2)

by Ty on December 2, 2012

Ty and Dan reunite in New York City and discuss Alabama’s big win in the SEC Championship, Wisconsin’s third straight Rose Bowl berth, Florida State’s limp to the finish, and much more.  Plus, a quick chat with Clay Travis from OutkickTheCoverage.com about betting lines, internet trolls, and an Alabama-Notre Dame BCS Championship matchup.

Note: Due to technical difficulties, listener Reverbs will be featured as part of Wednesday’s show.

Dear Dan and Ty, I have been a big fan for a long time. I am a duck alumnus from 2001. I have been living and teaching in Asia for 10 years. I moved to South Korea in 2002, Japan in 2006, and moved to Taiwan about three years ago. Your show helps keep me connected to college football for which I am a huge fan. I am usually a passive listener but after hearing you talk about Asia peaked my interest enough to write you. There are only a few places in Asia I haven't been. As a geographer from Oregon I have perhaps seen as many cities in Asia as Dan has college campuses back home. Not sure what the over under on that would be but I bet it's close. As you have both imparted much wisdom my way in regards to the raft of college football, I thought I would return the effort with my take on places to go in Asia. Now, I realize you we're teasing about coming this way but may I say for the sake of saying that, Cambodia and Macau should be far off your top list of places to go in Asia. You talk of tire fires, well people in Phnom Phen pretty much live amongst one. Cambodia is a difficult place to visit as life post Polpot has been exchanged for rampant human rights violations and squalid conditions. Macau, just plain sucks, it is a cultural less place and not worth the 20 hour flight from New York. You can see all of Macau in 4 hours or less. Hong Kong is a much wiser alternative. Vietnam or Thailand would be a better alternative to Cambodia. China and Taiwan, were I currently live are too strict. Singapore and Malaysia are a great time Japan in a must see and South Korea is a lot of fun. Not sure what Cambodian food is like in New York Dan, but in Cambodia it makes you piss out your ass for weeks. I'm sad that ducks and Irish don't get to play each other this year I would have enjoyed to hear your thoughts on that match up. Perhaps next year we can have a Kelly bowl and big balls chip can break out his Tyner. Stay solid, which in Cambodia would be an impossibility, and MA-TA-NE..ANNYONG..ZAIJEN.

I emailed Ty and Dan this, but after thinking about it I think I'm going to force the world to read my rant. lol Clay Travis: Evil Pundit? or Evilest Pundit? Let me start by saying when I first heard Clay several years ago I liked his refreshing take on things, but after hearing him more and more, I've since done a complete 180. Clay Travis is the worst pundit in college football in the last 5-6 years. This is a guy who's opinion is always just the opposite of whatever prevailing opinion is. He's made a sad career being a contrarian and it is shameless. This is the man who asked Tim Tebow if he was a virgin in a football related press conference. He's like the gadfly buzzing around actual professional journalists only able to eek out a career by disagreeing with them in the most glib, devil's-advocate, lawyerly, internety, "hey these people are idiots aren't they?", disrespectful fashion. Can you imagine what it would be like if every journalist were like him? It would be mass chaos, he can only exist because they are professionals. He opened up his conversation with you guys to brag about futures betting on college football? This is the kind of thing that should be frowned upon and not encouraged with fun jokes and braggadocio. As an aside, Let me type this in all caps because the gambling in this country is getting a little out of hand: GAMBLING HAS RUINED THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF LIVES IN THIS COUNTRY. IT IS NOT FUN AND GAMES FOR THEM OR THE FAMILY MEMBERS DRAGGED THROUGH HELL BECAUSE OF IT. I bet he didn't mention why Bama fans hate him so much did he? It's because he started his career by lampooning us and being outright hostile to our fanbase, frankly, he deserves every bit of vitriol that comes his way. To me he is everything that is wrong with sports and modern society: the money-first, opportunist, ideal-jettisoning, worldly materialism that pervades his smug and arrogant demeanor, is directly at odds with living a good life, being a productive and helpful member of society, respecting others, and being the kind of person that strengthens a society rather than leeching off of it. Clay strikes me as the kind of guy that is the enabler, the friend who says "screw it, just do it. If it pays, do it" and I would love nothing more than to see him fail. And as a Bama fan I guess I'm obliged to say this: YOUR GAY CLAY TRAVIS HAW HAW HAW HAW - Stu from Tuscaloosa
